These two tall gentlemen are seniors Mike and Rob Jepson, otherwise known as the “Jepstone” twins. They came to St. Mary’s in 1976 after just returning to the colonies from England where both graduated from London Central High School. Rob refers to his experience across the water as “enlightening.” Mike, however, had no comment at all on this subject. They both feel that their freshman year here was a much more liberal period, or to use their own words it was “casual.” Both feel that at the time they were “geeks; just two guys that looked alike and nobody cared.” At the time Mike and Rob resided together in Sin City. Then came the split, “ the honeymoon was over,” and things changed. Mike went to Caroline and Rob went to P.G. Even though there is still much brotherly affection between the two, they stated that then as in now, “We agree to disagree.” Then, unexpected and almost out of nowhere Blubberism struck. In domino fashion, the Blubberhead movement spread from it’s initially small core (which included the likes of the Brothers, Chris Tallevast, Jerry Johnson, Dan Haynos, Sue Moss, The Hobbit, Gary Conway, and Tim Dillingham) to an inescapable phenomenon to which no one on campus was cimpletely immune. Reconciliation occurred between the Brothers to some degree as currently Rob carries on this tradition at third center P.G., aided by his . brother on his frequent visits back to the campus from his internship at the Benedict laboratories. What is a Blubberhead or Blubberism you ask? Well, in short, it is defined as irrationality mixed with an abstract quality not definable in retoricle terms. Even though there will only be two of the original Blubbers left after this year, the Brothers efforts, along with those of their collequeges, will continue to be a dominate influence on SMC and Blubberism will most probably transcend space and time. In concluding the interview Rob said, “I live for the day when every student can travel to class in their own Lococo-mobile.” Mike summed up his philosophy by adding, “Screw ‘em if they can’t take a joke. They’ll get over it.” c+ u Steve McHenry Great progress was made towards our long range goal of promoting the Windsurfer Class as an intercollegiate sport.
