april 17.1990 The Point News Page 5 Sandy Risko: Ms. PAC This past year, I had the opportunity to serve as the senatorial representative on the Media Board. It was through this that I became aware of the problems of the media sources on campus and realized their importance in keeping students informed, active, and interested. I also observed the job of Kristen Vojik, the former Public Affairs Coordinator this past year and saw the job as interesting. I saw that the job entailed acting as a liaison between the students and the faculty and administration of St. Mary's College. More directly, helping the Media sources and the staff interact and address common issues together. The Public Affairs Coordinator is also responsible for helping the media sources to deal with problems arise, such as with equipment or shortages of staff. This includes discovering all possible solutions to the problem, such as through research or in the convention of the entire Media Board to address the problem and hear other ideas. And, finally, the Public Affairs Coordinator acts as the facilitator at meetings, keeping the media sources working together and helping one another distribute the news in the best and more effective ways. As Public Affairs Coordinator, I intend to continue doing all of the above and will do my best to help the media improve its sources and serve the Saint Mary's College students faculty, staff, administration, and community to the best of my ability. I take a personal interest in serving on the Media Board as Public Affairs Coordinator because I enjoy being involved and part of being involved includes being informed, which requires good sources of media. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to be informed and involved, if elected, I intend to see that this happens. Meredith Davis: Vice Pres. VOTE FOR SOMEONE April 18 and 19 TELL YOUR FRIENDS Housing On Campus Continued from Page 1 for the next year is students living in lobby rooms. The two lobby rooms in P.G. and one in Dorchester are needed for new out of on-campus housing. Winegrad said he talked to the students living there and they had no qualms about moving out of the high traffic area to a quieter room. With regard to preference, Winegrad said he tried to get them one of their preferences if possible. One final note about the townhouse policy quells circulating rumors that coaches have been getting their athletes into the townhouses. Winegrad says "that's not true, the only athletes int townhouses got pulled in by other residents." He also says that "no pressure was put on him to place athletes, although I am involved in athletics.” fhe Run For The Money Onteria Branch: Not Just A Write In My name is Onteria Branch, and I am a Junior at Saint May's College Of Maryland. I am a candidate for the position of Treasurer of the Student Government Association. Presently, I am a member of the Stucdent Government Association's Finance Board and working directly under Nicole Chastain, who is the current Student Government Association's Treaurer. In the past, I have held the following positions: Treasurer of Temple Baptist Church's Youth Council, Vice-President of the Student Government Association at The Catholic High School of Baltimore, and student representative for the Archdiocese Student Government Association of Maryland. While being a member on the Student Government Association's Finance Board, I have noticed a great increase in the amount of campus clubs and organizations that have been chartered this year, and the desire to attend more out of state conventions to broaden their knowledge about certain issues pertaining to the interest of their clubs and organizations. For this reason, there has been and will continue to be a considerable need to address the Student Government Association's Budget Policies to fit the needs of all the clubs and organizations on their campus. This past year, I've noticed student's exercising their freedom of choice— the choice to make the right decisions about imporatant matters and issues on campus. This election is important matters because YOU decide what individuals you want to represent your student body; therfore, I urge you to vote for Onteria Branch on Wednesday, April 18th or Thursday, April 19th, and MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION! Nancy Dugan: On a Fiscal Education As Treasurer of the SGA I believe I can bring a new vitality to the organization. In the past I have served as Presidemt of Dorm Council, Vice- President of the Cinema Guild, And Treasurer of the Science-Fiction Society. There are several ideas I will implement in this position. First, through the use of a handbook, distributed to each club, I will educate every club on SGA financial procedures. The handbook will include how to appeal for funds , how to create a budget, how to get requisitions, purchase orders, checks, reimbursements, and cash advancements, and the rules on receipts. This handbook will be beneficial for the club leaders, who because of continual turnover of leadership, lack experience in complicated financial procedures. It will also be beneficial to the general management of the SGA. Secondly, I will work more closely and individually with the clubs, by this I mean, explaining to ech club why they did or did not receive requested funds and making myself available for meetings and conferences with clubs for explanations and advising. In addition I will try to help clubs spend their money more wisely and help them find good ways of raising funds for their programming. I will also work more closely with the SGA and the senators. I believe the senators deserve detailed recommendations from the finance board on those matters which they must vote on so that they can make educated decisions. Finally, as Treaurer of the SGA I will keep up-to-date financial records of every transaction to ensure that accurate balances are available at all times. With all of these ideas I hope to alleviate the alienation the community sometimes feels towards the treasurer's office and the finance board and to better organize the position.
